Next Steps?I already believe that the next steps of this problem have already been taken. The FDA banned these products and thats that. However, I do believe that there are still more steps when looking at the bigger picture. We should do a check on all these products that are being used not just in hair salons, but in places that use chemicals at all. There are still many unknown things we are using that can potentially hurt us.

SummaryA hair straightening method called Brazilian Blowout promises to turn curls into smooth hair. However, a hairstylist experienced shortness of breath, eye irritation, and nosebleeds when using Brazilian Blowout products. It was later descovered that these products contained a carcinogen called formaldehyde, even though it was advertised as formaldehyde-free. Even though it didn't contain formaldehyde, using the product converts the chemicals into formaldehyde fumes. Exposure to formaldehyde has been linked to nose and throat cancer as well as leukemia. This resulted in the FDA banning these products.
ReflectionAfter reading this article, I was very shocked that this was something that went unnoticed. Just the fact that people were being exposed and experiencing side effects without saying anything is also very disturbing. If the one hairstylist hadn't spoken up about what had been happening to her, then more people would have gotten exposed to formaldehyde. The reason why this article was so informative to me was because even though I am not a girl, I know that they like getting their hair done and after reading this, it was very shocking to see that even getting your hair done is dangerous as well.
