China's New Birth Rule Can't Restore Missing Women and Fix a Population
Source
Next Steps? In my opinion, there is not much the Chinese can do to fix this problem. They already lifted the one child policy but the Chinese people are already so content with this that they are sticking to one child without this. A solution that can be determined can be that the Chinese should just try their hardest to try and start up a baby boom and hopefully balance out the population between genders. With the high amount of babies in China, this can also fix the lower population of younger people. With this, the high abundance of older people in China will finally have people that will attend to them economically and socially. They should also take our the idea of sex-selective abortions out of their heads. If science does what it does and gives a family a girl, i do not believe that they have the right to abort the baby. They should just keep it and just try again and again until they finally get that boy.

SummaryChina has just recently eliminated the rule for families to have just one child. Even though this policy has been eliminated, it is very unlikely that a baby boom will occur and help economic growth. Even though this rule is lifted, citizens in China are so used to having just one child that they will end up just sticking to that regardless of the rule or not. Furthermore, this policy has lead to many men that come from sex-selective abortions. The purpose of this policy was to, "Slashing the birth rate would yield a “demographic dividend” of abundant working age people with few dependents to support". There were many instances in society where humans tried to meddle in the process of child birth and tried to prevent children from being born. Now in China, 12 percent of their population is over the age of 60 with little amounts of young people to support them. Another issue is with the overwhelming amount of men that populate China. Because of this, there are many men that cannot find women to marry. A big reason why women are so scarce in China is because of the sex-selective abortions.
ReflectionAfter reading this article, I was really informed about how strict Chinese people really are. I do not believe that making a policy like limiting families to just one child is fair but we obviously have different morals from the Chinese. This article was very interesting to read and I was really surprised that China is another country that follows sex-selective abortions. Other than India, I was not previously aware that there were other countries that value boys so highly that they would just abort the child if they found out it was a girl. Now that they have taken their population and made it so one sided, the idea of restoring this is already too late. This was not something i feel that is necessary to do considering that they were just killing babies just because they were not pleased with its gender. This relates a lot to what we are discussing right now in my APES class in how everything is a factor that can effect the environment. Now that Chinas population has become such an upside down pyramid, not only that but they also have a one sided gender population, they have a lot of work to do if they actually want to fix this population problem.
